Each on-line payment transaction is subject to the following third-party fees:

Credit or Debit card: 2.5% or $2.00 minimum

Visa Debit: $3.95

E-Check: $2.00

These fees also apply for payments made in person by credit or debit card at the Tax Collector’s Office.

(Please Note. The Town of North Stonington receives no portion of the service fee, this fee is used to cover the payment processing expenses.)

If motor vehicle taxes are unpaid, you will not be able to register any vehicles with the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles or renew any vehicle registrations. (Per Connecticut General Statute 14-33). ALL outstanding vehicle taxes associated with your name and/or your VIN#, including taxes not yet delinquent, must be paid in full in order for a release to be issued. Payment of cash or bank check releases overnight as long as the tax collector is in the office to process your payment. Please confirm office hours.

All DMV clearances are now processed electronically. We no longer issue paper clearances with the Town stamp. Payments made on-line through the Town of North Stonington website will typically take two (2) business days to clear with DMV. Payments made on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays will not clear with DMV until the following Tuesday, assuming that Monday is not a holiday.

Per Connecticut General Statute Sec.12-144b. payments must first be applied to the taxpayers oldest outstanding obligation, by type of tax (real estate, motor vehicle or personal property).
